Classes for Youth

Unlock Creativity: A Writing Class That Moves You—Literally!

In this lively class students will dive into the art of storytelling through movement, games, and imaginative writing exercises. We’ll get pencils moving, bodies engaged, and ideas flowing as young writers learn to create characters, build stories, and craft their own short scenes for the stage or screen.

More than just writing, this class is about self-discovery. Students will explore their creative instincts in a safe, supportive space that encourages expression, confidence, and fun. Whether acting out a scene, developing a new character, or simply letting ideas take shape on the page, each student will have the chance to share their voice.

In this class, your student will learn how to:

  • Trust their creative instincts and build self-confidence

  • Write from a place of authenticity and emotional honesty

  • Harness their imagination to express their unique voice

  • Connect mind and body through whole-self storytelling

  • Embrace vulnerability as a source of strength and creativity

Backed by research that shows strong links between arts education and academic success, this class nurtures not only writing skills but emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and personal growth. It’s a joyful, judgment-free space where students are encouraged to explore who they are—and who they can become—through the power of creative expression.

Connected Play: A Class for Parents + Kids

Step out of the daily routine and into a space where you and your child can reconnect through movement, laughter, and presence. This unique class invites both parent and child to explore the joy of play — together —while learning simple, trauma-informed somatic practices that support nervous system regulation, emotional resilience, and deeper connection.

Through games, creative exercises, and body-based awareness tools, you’ll co-create moments of fun and discovery that help both of you feel more grounded, attuned, and alive in your bodies. This is a space where parents don’t have to be “in charge”—just present and playful.

In this class, you’ll both get to:

  • Strengthen your bond through co-regulation and shared movement

  • Build somatic awareness and emotional attunement

  • Reclaim the joy of play (without needing to lead or manage!)

  • Create new patterns of connection that can ripple into daily life

This class is designed to be a nourishing, supportive experience for both parent and child—a chance to simply be with one another with curiosity and compassion. Whether you're rolling on the floor in a silly game or pausing together in mindful stillness, this is your space to grow closer through presence and play.

instructor introduction

Hello! My name is Lindsay. I am a professional teaching artist and performer alongside many years working with positive youth development as a program coordinator for after school programs and as an artist in residence in schools and in online settings.

I am also trained in breathwork, energy healing, guided meditation tools, nervous system regulation and trauma informed somatic awareness practices and bring those tools into my teaching.

I’ve taught a range of students from ages 8 - 20 including gifted students and students with specific learning and behavioral needs with 20 years of experience.

My classroom is a supportive space where I encourage students to challenge themselves to grow and evolve and to have fun while doing it! When a student struggles with something I encourage them to see it as a learning opportunity to help them grow. I also encourage students to create a sense of community with their peers in a co-created learning environment.

As an arts educator and youth programs coordinator I’ve worked with: Silk Road Rising Theatre, Center for Community Arts Partnerships (Columbia College), Victory Gardens Theatre Chicago and the Howard Area Community Center. I’ve also facilitated workshops for the theater departments at Smith College and North Park University and several international artist residency programs including: SASSO (Switzerland), AADK (Spain), Le Plongeoir (Lyon, France), Tools for Solidarity (Northern Ireland), and Weave (Brussels, BE).

I look forward to seeing you in my virtual classroom!
